The Majolica Manufactory was built at the beginning of the XX century by Emperor Wilhelm II. It ‘s situated in the north of Poland by the Wislany lagoon. The production was mainly based on ceramic products. Unfortunately, after the war, the complex had several owners who ruined valuable building quality. Despite the years and the condition of the complex we can still feel the specific unique energy in there , waiting to be awaken. How to do it ?

School of artistic crafts - Sensual museum

Adaptation of Cadinen Majolika manufacture

// Condition on a site …

Historical matter …how to bring it back to being alive ?

To answer these questions, we need to examine the process of creating Majolika. The formation of ceramics requires us to focus on both the physical and metaphysical levels. This process can also have a healing effect. By transforming the Majolika factory into a school of artistic craftsmanship with the added function of a sensory museum, we will be able to foster a dialogue between the past and the present. Visitors will be invited to immerse themselves in the space and merge with it. Lost in reality, we often forget how important the senses are in our lives. We forget how to use them. The school of ceramics will be mainly intended for people, artists, whose sensitivity needs to be reawaken.

Sensual answer for innards sensitivity awaking…

Path of the experience

The sensual museum allows us to remind ourselves how important are the senses in our perception. Each room was specially designed in a way to interact with our hidden senses. Just like James Turell’s does with the spaces he creates, our spatial perception will be stimulated. Last room of the museum is ‘inner forest’, where the hole in the roof is made with the symbolic inner tree planted. Here we observe the tree that just like us have the roots, and by growing out of the building is merging with the reality outside, we ‘grow’ in this metaphore upwards as well. Ceramics plays a key role as the last closing part of this experience, we will go to the ceramic workshop room, where we can remodel the already found pieces of our emotionality, giving life to beautiful majolica products that will be exhibited in a newly designed pavilion outside.
